Poverty, Inequality and Marginalization

Faculty and staff at the Keough School play a pivotal role in addressing the systemic causes of poverty, inequality and environmental degradation that undermine lives and hinder human flourishing, all through a dignity-first approach.

Drawing on the integrated perspectives of scholars from different disciplines, the Keough School prioritizes on-the-ground contexts, the people and communities experiencing hardship and the intersection of poverty with gender, ethno-racial and other kinds of marginalization.

Leadership in Poverty, Inequality and Marginalization

The Keough School is a proud partner of the Notre Dame Poverty Initiative.

The Keough School’s Pulte Institute for Global Development plays a pivotal role in advancing the Notre Dame Poverty Initiative. This initiative unites research, education, and policy to illuminate proven pathways out of poverty, preparing the next generation of leaders in anti-poverty efforts. Complementing this work, the Keough School’s Klau Institute for Civil and Human Rights advances scholarship and fosters dialogue on civil and human rights, addressing systemic issues and protecting the dignity of all individuals. Additionally, the Urban Poverty and Business Initiative (UBPI) from the Keough School's McKenna Center empowers entrepreneurship as a means to combat urban poverty, furthering our commitment to equity and justice.
