Ziming (Owen) Wang inquires into the perception and understanding of temporality, historicality, and agency. His current focus is on the formative roles which the reification of those concepts plays in collective memory regimes and the implied impediment to political reconciliation for those with antagonistic standings. He draws from the works of 20th century continental philosophy to inform his critical framework and inspire his creativity in peacebuilding.
Owen grounds his study in memory politics in China and Japan, which he deepened his understanding of and contributed to relevant projects when served as an assistant at the East Asia National Resource Center, the Eurasia Center, and the U.S.-China Education Trust. He also seeks to build on his experience as an educator at a Chinese middle school and explore primary education as a means of change.
Owen's academic interest has developed and persisted while he worked toward a Master of Arts in International Affairs with a concentration on Conflict Analysis and Resolution and, previously, his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and International Affairs, both degrees awarded by George Washington University.
