Girika Sharma holds a Master’s degree in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India.
Her research focuses on how extreme heat heightens risks for vulnerable populations, aiming to build evidence for effective, low-cost adaptation strategies by integrating climate, health, and economic data. Prior to joining Notre Dame, she spent three years as a researcher at the Institute of Economic Growth in New Delhi, working at the intersection of climate and health economics.
During her time in New Delhi, Girika contributed to a large-scale, interdisciplinary quasi-experimental field study evaluating the economic and health impacts of heat adaptation strategies across low-income settlements in India. Additionally, she served as a Chapter Scientist for the IPCC Seventh Assessment Report (AR7), contributing to the Finance chapter.
