Gwendolyn Stansbury

Program Director, Knowledge Management

Gwendolyn Stansbury leads the Keough School’s knowledge management activities, helping to bridge research, policy, and practice by translating the School’s knowledge and research into products and initiatives that engage an array of external audiences—particularly the policy and practice communities—to effect social change.

Prior to coming to Notre Dame, Stansbury served as chief of publications and the library at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome, where she developed a digital-first publishing strategy to reach core audiences, many of whom search for, access, and share information in a digital environment. While at the FAO, Stansbury led an initiative to embed Altmetric badges on key publications to track the attention those publications receive from sources such as research blogs, public policy documents, mainstream media, and social media.

From 2006-2015, Stansbury worked at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in Washington, DC, serving as director of communications and knowledge management during her final three years. In addition to traditional communications activities, she led the scholarly support team, working to ensure IFPRI researchers had the training and resources they needed to raise the visibility of their scholarly profiles.

Stansbury also has worked as a consultant for a range of international development/research organizations, including the World Bank, the CGIAR, and the Inter-American Development Bank, and has long experience in the research/policy/scholarly communications realms. She holds a PhD in history from the University of New England in Australia, a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University, and a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Michigan. She was raised in a bilingual, bicultural family and speaks Spanish and Italian.
