The Nanovic Institute for European Studies offers this grant to graduate students for independent research projects in or about Europe.
Eligible Expenses
Transportation (flights, airport transfers, mileage, parking, in-country transportation), lodging, meals, other (entrance/research fees, international insurance coverage, phone plan, etc.)

Fall application deadline
Before submitting an application, students are strongly encouraged to consult with someone from Nanovic, another Keough School unit, or the Graduate School. A faculty mentor is required and should review draft proposals before they are submitted. Faculty references are due no later than 10/20/26 (3/9/27 for summer grants).

Submission Requirements
Applicant information (name, year in program, expected graduation year, program and level of study, email address, NDID). Project information (title, start and end date, relevance to field of study, relation to Nanovic research priorities, student's qualifications to complete research). Research proposal (project narrative, methodology, expected outcomes and/or outputs). Proposed budget. Faculty reference. Resume.
Evaluation Criteria
Strength of project proposal and budget, well-crafted research plan, necessary methodological and language proficiencies, faculty endorsement, connection to dissertation, alignment of project with Nanovic research priorities/European studies.
