The Nanovic Institute for European Studies offers this grant to faculty developing and teaching undergraduate European Studies courses in any discipline.
Overview
Supports the development and teaching of undergraduate European Studies courses, in any discipline, with priority funding given to courses on (i) diplomacy, (ii) Ukrainian Studies, (iii) Nanovic research priorities, especially "the peripheries," (iv) University Initiatives, and (v) those that qualify for the Ways of Knowing attribute.

Fall application deadline
Proposals requesting support for European Studies Course Development and Teaching will be reviewed twice each academic year, following the published grant deadlines for the fall and spring semesters. Proposals must be for new, semester-long, three-credit courses. Courses can originate in any department, though they must be cross-listed with (or originate in) the Nanovic Institute's curricular program for European Studies (EURO). Notre Dame's regular-rank faculty, including tenured and tenure-track faculty, research faculty, teaching faculty, professors of the practice, clinical faculty, library faculty, and advising faculty, are eligible to apply. Faculty must commit to teaching the course at least twice in three years and have received approval from their appropriate Department Chair(s). All faculty who submit course proposals that meet eligibility requirements will receive a $500 grant in their research account, even if the proposal is ultimately unsuccessful. Successful applicants will receive another $2,000, in two $1,000 disbursements, at the start of the first two semesters in which the class is taught. These funds can be paid into faculty research accounts or added to salary, in which case they will be subject to taxation.

- (iii) plans to develop and teach the course, including which semester the faculty plan to first teach the class.
- Tentative course syllabus OR a course descriptionthat includes
- (i) a course title
- (ii) a course overview (~150 words)
- (iii) a list of (at least 10) readings.
- Updated CV (from each faculty member involved with the course).
- Written approval from the appropriate Department Chair(s) supporting the creation of the proposed course and confirming the faculty member's availability to teach it at least twice in three years.
Evaluation Criteria
Strength of the proposed course, meeting of the eligibility requirements (including departmental support), and the course's capacity to advance the mission of the Nanovic Institute and European studies.
