Joan oversees academic communications and marketing for the Keough School of Global Affairs. She leads the development of communications strategies designed to attract and engage global-minded faculty, students, the media, and partners. As a member of the Dean’s senior leadership team, she also advises the Dean and the Associate Deans and faculty on strategic communications. Joan is the Keough School’s liaison to the Office of Public Affairs and Communications, and she serves as a consultant to the 7 academic units that are integral parts of the Keough School.

Before coming to Notre Dame in 2008, Joan was a senior vice president at Lipman Hearne (Chicago/Washington), serving higher education and nonprofit organizations. Her clients included the MacArthur Foundation, University of Chicago, Kennedy-Krieger Institute at Johns Hopkins, Brown University, University of Miami, Biodesign Institute, University of Sydney Faculty of Medicine, Universidad de Monterrey, University of Rochester, University Medical Center of Princeton, Los Angeles Children’s Hospital, Washington National Cathedral, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Dallas Museum of Art, and other academic, medical research, and arts and cultural organizations.

Joan previously directed communications for the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, and she recently lived and worked for a semester in Jerusalem at Notre Dame’s Tantur Ecumenical Institute. She grew up in Latin America and began her career as an intern staff writer at The Miami Herald.
